Black-crested antshrike (female), Inírida river, Colombia
I'm glad I asked our guide for help on this one, as I was completely on the wrong track. Superficially, I figured this to be one of dozens of woodpeckers known to occur in Colombia, yet the bill was off. Confusingly, it's an antshrike, a black-crested even, yet in this case it is the female having the spectacular red crest.

The black-crested antshrike is a passerine bird in the antbird family. It is a resident breeder in tropical South America in Trinidad, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas, northern Brazil and northeastern Peru.
