
Amazon River Dolphin, Inírida river, Colombia
Our first meeting with these fantastic river dolphins. We were not prepared for them or even expected them to occur here. On subsequent days we revisited this part of the river 3 more times and each time saw several of them.
Photographing them is the ultimate frustration though, you never know where they will surface and by the time you find out, you're too late. Luckily, on the last day I did get some good breach shots, will share those when I get there in the set.

The Amazon river dolphin, also known as the boto, bufeo or pink river dolphin, is a species of toothed whale classified in the family Iniidae. Three subspecies are currently recognized: ''I. g. geoffrensis'', ''I. g. boliviensis'' and ''I. g. humboldtiana'' . The three subspecies are distributed in the Amazon basin, the upper Madeira River in Bolivia, and the Orinoco basin, respectively.
The Amazon river dolphin is the largest species of river dolphin, with adult males reaching 185 kilograms.. more
