At the time of seeing these they came across as a common sight given their great numbers, but they're a pretty specific species constrained to rivers mostly, where they often feed in groups from the safety of mid-river drift wood, as seen here. They're constantly cleaning themselves, so it's hard to get them to "pose" :)

The black-collared swallow is a species of bird in the family Hirundinidae.
It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname, and Venezuela.
Its natural habitat is rivers.
