The Pickhandle Barracudas - Sphyraena jello are silvery with yellowish tail; long cylindrical and large underslung jaw with pointed teeth, about 20 wavy bars primarily on upper half of the body.

The pickhandle barracuda is so called because the dark marks along its sides look like the thick ends of pickaxe handles. These dark markings fade with the preservation.

Sea anglers sometimes colloquially shorten the name to "pick".
