
Goldsaddle Goatfish - Parupeneus cyclostomus, Yellow Phase
Goldsaddle Goatfish - Parupeneus cyclostomus is highly changeable, various combinations of purple to brown; green and yellow; blue line markings around eye, often a yellow saddle is apparent on upper tail base.
This picture shows their all yellow phase/variation which is yellow to gold without markings except some blue lines around eye. Unlike most Goatfishes that feed predominantly on small sand or rubble-dwelling invertebrates, Goldsaddle Goatfishes feed primarily on small fishes that are frightened from holes in the reefs by their probling barbels.

The goldsaddle goatfish or yellowsaddle goatfish, ''Parupeneus cyclostomus'', is a species of goatfish native to the Indo-Pacific. It is a commercially important species, as well as being sought out as a game fish, though it has been reported as carrying the ciguatera toxin. It can also be found in the aquarium trade.
