The Mexican Hogifish - Bodianus diplotaenia has prominent canine teeth.
Male : greenish gray to reddish brown body with yellow bar mid-body; larger individuals have hump on front of head. Older males with streaming dorsal, anal, pelvic and caudal fins.
Adult Female : with two dark stripes on sides on body and two dark spots on caudal peduncle; caudal peduncle and tail yellow. Pointed snout.

Adults inhabit rocky or coral areas at depths of 5–75 m. Sometimes, they are also found on sandy bottoms and where marine plants abound. They are solitary or form aggregations of only a few individuals. Mexican hogfish feed on crabs, brittle stars, mollusks, and sea urchins.
