  1. hi Ernst, would you happen to have a reference with taxonomy data for this species? Posted 8 years ago
    1. Ferdy this is what I used to do the identification with.
      http:www.fncu.org.au/Ep-content/themes/field-naturalist/publications/fungi-in-australia
Sorry but I am computereliterate and can't do cut and paste yet.
      I hope this will help.
Please note. After fncu.org.au/ should be wp-content instead of Ep.

      1. No worries, we'll get there. I'm currently using this link based on your instructions:
        http://www.fncu.org.au/wp-content/themes/field-naturalist/publications/fungi-in-australia

Yet it does not work. Perhaps some guidance on how to copy/paste, assuming you're on Windows:
        - On the website, click in the address bar to position your cursor in it
        - Next, on your keyboard, hit Ctrl + A (hold control button, then hit A, then release both). This should make all text blue, meaning it is selected
        - Next, right click on the blue text and chose "copy"
        - Come back to JungleDragon, right-click inside a new comment, and chose "paste"

        Hope this helps!

        1. My fault Ferdi.
          Try this way www.fncv.org.au
When the website pops up click publications then choose Fungi in Australia
Go to fungi with thick stipe and find fungi with brown spore print
Then you should find Cortinarius austrocinnabarinus .
It looks as if they changed the website. I work only with an I pad as I told you that I am not good with computers.
I hope this helps this time . Best regards
          Ernst

          1. OK, this is the booklet, Cortinarius austrocinnabarinus is on page 51 of the print or 55 of the file. However, I am not convinced it is the correct ID. From this booklet and the next reference below the surface of the stalk (stipe) is rough while this one is more smooth. It's colour is not the same either.

            1. Yes I agree after going over the visual identification photos I have or could find that the initial identification is not correct. I am not trying to guess but I think that after searching photos of other Cortinarius species I would like to suggest
Cortinarius persplendidus . It looks much more like the images of my upload.
It is also in the publication I listed .

              1. I agree that Cortinarius persplendidus is a closer match but fungi are difficult to identify and there are many similar ones. The best way to identify them is to look at the spores under the microscope but that is something we cannot do. I don't know how reliable this identification can be. Posted 8 years ago
  2. Wildflower for now I think that is all I can work out but I will not give up. The problem is that as you mentioned , not much is known in general about fungus in particular I about Australian species.
    Best regards and thank you
