Although the Hippopotamus - Hippopotamus amphibius looks harmless, they are actually the Top 10 most dangerous animals in the world, killing nearly 3,000 humans per year in Africa, this compared to less than 10 humans killed by Sharks per year, worldwide!

Another little known fact, they are by some considered to be land animals, in the sense that they come on land to graze in the night. The only reason they're in the water by day is so they don't get sun burned. Posted 8 years ago

The Hippopotamus

The hippopotamus, or hippo, is a large, mostly herbivorous mammal in sub-Saharan Africa, and one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae. The name comes from the ancient Greek for "river horse". After the elephant and rhinoceros, the hippopotamus is the third-largest type of land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl.
