Puffadder Shy Shark This Puffadder Shy Shark - Haploblepharus edwardsii is endemic to the sea off South Africa.  They are brown with spots of white and markings instead of the typical grey colour of sharks.  Small in size, less than 1 meter length, they are usually found resting at the sea bottom.  Like other species of Catsharks, they have large silverish eyes.<br />

Puffadder Shy Shark

This Puffadder Shy Shark - Haploblepharus edwardsii is endemic to the sea off South Africa. They are brown with spots of white and markings instead of the typical grey colour of sharks. Small in size, less than 1 meter length, they are usually found resting at the sea bottom. Like other species of Catsharks, they have large silverish eyes.

They are called Shy Shark because if they are touched/handled, instead of always swimming away, they may turn their head towards its pectoral fin to 'hide'.

The puffadder shyshark or happy Eddie is a species of catshark, belonging to the family Scyliorhinidae, endemic to the temperate waters off the coast of South Africa. This common shark is found on or near the bottom in sandy or rocky habitats, from the intertidal zone to a depth of 130 m . Typically reaching 60 cm in length, the puffadder shyshark has a slender, flattened body and head. It is strikingly patterned with a series of dark-edged, bright orange "saddles" and numerous small white spots.. more
