Gamble Quail chick We now have a few covey of quail roaming around our backyard. For size comparison to its adult size here is an image of the covey:<br />

Covey of Quail This is part of a covey of 7 chicks. The mother guards them intensely as they will mature over the next several weeks. My estimate is that these are about 3 weeks old.<br />

The Gambel's quail is a small ground-dwelling bird in the New World quail family. It inhabits the desert regions of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Sonora; also New Mexico-border Chihuahua and the Colorado River region of Baja California.
