Feeding frenzy! So many birds are attracted to our local compost heap. I was thrilled to see this whole flock of Brimstone canaries today, along with rather a lot of Eurasian collared doves! 1. We're a world apart, yet this photo still feels familiar. We have the same dove species in our garden, and as for the canary, a good look-a-like, the European greenfinch. Posted 8 years ago
    1. Yes it is a little like a greenfinch and those doves get everywhere!!!! Posted 8 years ago
  2. What a wonderful image - nothing too strange or exotic but just filled with life. Posted 8 years ago

The brimstone canary or bully canary is a small passerine bird in the finch family. It is a resident breeder in central and southern Africa. This species is found in open, lightly wooded habitats, such as hillsides with trees or scrub and forest edges. In South Africa it occurs mainly in coastal areas, inhabiting coastal bush, shrubs along streams, gardens, and areas with rank vegetation. It is not truly migratory, but undertakes some seasonal movements.
