The strange Blue wildebeest in Etosha NP
Wildebeest are actually classified as antelope - but they don't look like antelope, they look much more like cattle as people love to point out while on safari. It is a great example of convergent evolution,i.e., animals that look like each other and would appear to be related although they do not share a common ancestry (fish and dolphins are the classic example). We saw these in Etosha and no, I don't know how it got snad on its face.

The blue wildebeest is a large antelope and one of the two species of wildebeest. It is placed in the genus "Connochaetes" and family Bovidae and has a close taxonomic relationship with the black wildebeest. The blue wildebeest is known to have five subspecies. This broad-shouldered antelope has a muscular, front-heavy appearance, with a distinctive robust muzzle.
