Iconic African Lion I was saving this photo for the one which would get me Lion Reputation status and as I am very, very close - here you go. I have seen a fair number of lions over the years, but this one was just too "King of Beasts - your majesty" to resist. We saw him in Etosha! The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
