  1. Hi Ferdy, I think your bird is actually a black manakin. Compared with my bird, notice the shorter tail and bill, and different silhouette.

    1. Thanks. I shall now enter the dangerous territory of disagreeing with you. From what I remember, this one was ID-ed by call. Also, the bill is likely due to the angle. Similar:

Finally, the black manakin is described as having a black tip on the bill, not seen here.

      1. Hmmm interesting. Though I wouldn't put too much weight on the bill tip, see this one: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/216248371

Habitat would be a good clue, though I understand both species occur around Inírida. Was this in white-sand forest or flooded forest?

Also, what are you do doing up at this ungodly hour, you mad lad? hahahah

        1. I'm a night owl :)

Inirida has stretches of white sand forest, I honestly don't know where it begins and ends, or whether you would consider the area white sand as a whole?

          1. Hmm I honestly don't understand the fine variation of all the white-sand associated ecosystems very well. The key is whether or not this was in varzea, which is the preferred habitat of the black tyrant.
If you can, would mind asking your guide for confirmation? I can also ask a couple birder friends of mine to weigh in.
