
Just along for the ride
This infant lowland gorilla hangs on to her mom's leg as she forages around for munchies. This little cutie was born last September at Zoo Atlanta- Her name is Mijadala, or Mija for short. It translates roughly from Swahili for "chatty" as she is apparently a very vocal girl.
The western lowland gorilla is one of two subspecies of the western gorilla that lives in montane, primary, and secondary forests and lowland swamps in central Africa in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. It is the gorilla usually found in zoos. Adult male gorillas are prone to cardiomyopathy, a degenerative heart disease.
