Black tern in flight near Keramoti, Northern Greece
Black tern - Chlidonias niger
A 2-days trip to Northern Greece - Keramoti and Fanari region. Nestos river delta.
Quite a frustrating experience! I've made 100s of photos trying to catch these quick very maneuverable birds in flight. But it was worth it - I still have some successful shots!

The black tern is a small tern generally found in or near inland water in Europe and North America. As its name suggests, it has predominantly dark plumage. In some lights it can appear blue in the breeding season, hence the old English name "blue darr".
