    1. Thanks, Jivko, on behalf of the bird :) Posted 8 years ago
  2. An absolute beautiful picture, but could this possibly be the Golden-spangeled Piculet, in stead of the Orinoco Piculet ? I am not sure, but 2 features make me doubt, the relatively long orange fore-head crest and the (albeit slight) scaling on the back.
    Any comment is welcome.

    1. Oh, that DOES look quite close Kdebouck! I'm definitely curious about the differences between the two! Ferdy, what do you think?

And welcome to JungleDragon! We look forward to hearing more from you! If you have any questions about the site, please do feel free to ask any moderators!

      1. A tricky one this is. This one was identified by two top birding guides and I normally have a lot of trust in them. They consistently seem to correctly identify birds even from a remote view or brief call, which is no small feat given that Colombia has about 2,000 birds.

That said, they can be wrong, like anyone. Unfortunately, the birding book I have has poor illustrations on these two and has just as much going for each of the two. Illustrations and descriptions do not seem conclusive, nor does the range.

So I think it's a fair challenge, but I don't have a clear answer, sorry!

Anyway @kdebouck: welcome to JungleDragon :)

        1. Hi Ferdy, I checked photos on eBird and the illustrations on birdsoftheworld, and I would vote in favor of Golden-spangled as well, for the same reasons stated by kdebouck, especially the red crest. Posted 4 years ago
