Sri Lanka Jungle Fowl This looks a lot like a chicken which is not surprising as the domesticated chicken was derived from the very similar and closely related Red Junglefowl of India. Kind of cool to see what therefore is in effect the "wild chicken" or "Ur-chicken" as they say in German. Note the genus "Gallus" - this is why the symbil for France is a rooster and the French were originally called "Gauls" (Asterix and Obelix). The Sri Lankan Junglefowl , also known during the colonial era as the Ceylon Junglefowl, is a member of the Galliformes bird order which is endemic to Sri Lanka, where it is the national bird.
