Wooden Chrysomelid Beetle (paropsisterna lignea)
A beautiful striped leaf beetle about 12 mm long. The dark brown alternated with white stripes. The outer elytral margin appeared white and there were five dark stripes on each elytron - the first fusing with the second from the outer elytral margin and the third fusing with the fourth. The Pronotum was a pale brown with three back dots.
This beetle is variable in appearance.
Spotted on a Mountain Ash sapling (Eucalyptus regnans) in alpine Victoria.
Paropsisterna lignea is very variable being brown, yellow or red, with ten lines, alternately filled or entirely unmarked. The pronotum sometimes has three dots.
