Australian Magpie Australia is heaven for birders - unlike many places where there are almost always a fair number of birds that you already know from Europe or North America, in Australia almost all land birds will be new and unfamiliar (known as Life Birds to birdwatchers, i.e., first time you have seen it in your life). These were not as colorful as the many Lorikeets, but the plumage is still striking. Australia,Australian Magpie,Geotagged,Gymnorhina tibicen,Phillip island,Spring Click/tap to enlarge

The Australian magpie is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. Although once considered to be three separate species, it is now considered to be one, with nine recognised subspecies.
