      1. Ah well yes the maori name comes from its call, but I meant the english name: it's brown, and a bastard to see well :-)
        I only posted this crappy photo because that way all 3 species of its family are on JD (the other two being the whitehead and the yellowhead)

The pipipi , also known as brown creeper or New Zealand creeper, is a small passerine bird endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. They are specialist insectivores, gleaning insects from branches and leaves. They have strong legs and toes for hanging upside down while feeding.
