A docile Slug-eating Snake trying to act tough
This slow-moving snake was crossing the road at night when we spotted it and tried to get it to stop moving for a few moments so we could take photos. It decided to act tough, raising its head and neck as if it were a viper and then lunging forward as if it were striking. But its lunges were comically slow, and several inches to the side of our outstretched hands. It didn't really fool us into thinking it was vicious.

The Mountain Slug Snake has been found only in hill dipterocarp, submontane and montane primary forests of Peninsular Malaysia at elevations of around 1000-2000 metres. It is absent from the lowlands.

Edit: just reading it feeds on snails, not exactly the fastest prey :) Posted 8 years ago
