
Female Purple honeycreeper, Santa María, Colombia
One of four honey creepers in Colombia, who all feed mostly on nectar using their curved bill. This is the female (young males look similar), which looks dramatically different from the bright purple male, but still beautiful, in particular the streaks on the chest:

The purple honeycreeper is a small bird in the tanager family. It is found in the tropical New World from Colombia and Venezuela south to Brazil, and on Trinidad. A few, possibly introduced birds have been recorded on Tobago.
