    1. Yeah our european magpies can't hold a candle to tropical species! Posted 8 years ago
      1. True, lots of them here, all black and white. Another nice tropical one:
Sri Lanka blue magpie, Sinharaja, Sri Lanka An iconic, Sri Lanka-only bird. Found at the end of the path we used in Sinharaja where we were taking shelter from heavy rain. Two groups of birds were having nests there. Just like other magpies, they are easy to lure by sound or objects thrown on the floor, be they food or shiny things. <br />

        1. Yup! One of my favorite birds when I visited SL. I also saw some terrific Red-billed blue magpies in Hong Kong but couldn't get photos unfortunately.

The Common Green Magpie is a member of the crow family, roughly about the size of the Eurasian Jay or slightly smaller. It is a vivid green in colour , slightly lighter on the underside and has a thick black stripe from the bill to the nape. Compared to the other members of its genus, the white-tipped tail is quite long. This all contrasts vividly with the red fleshy eye rims, bill and legs. The wings are reddish maroon.

It is found from the lower Himalayas in north eastern India in a.. more
