
The black-billed cuckoo is a New World species in the Cuculidae family. The scientific name is from Ancient Greek. The genus name "kokkuzo", means to call like a common cuckoo, and "erythropthalmus" is from "eruthros", "red" and "ophthalmos", "eye".
