
Alytes obstetricans Collage
Found this scene under a rather large boulder some years ago, while looking for woodlice and the likes. Didn't want to disturb any more so just shot a few snaps to document the observation and gently put the rock back. Not the most telling images for the parental care exhibited, but you can just make out the eggs attached to the male's hind body.

The common midwife toad is a species of midwife frog in the family Alytidae .
It is found in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom . Like other members of its genus , the male toad carries the eggs around entwined on his back and thighs until they are ready to hatch.
Its natural habitats are temperate forests, dry forests, shrubland, rivers, freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, temperate desert, arable land, pastureland.. more
