Golden Native Drone Fly A striking fly with a slightly flattened abdomen with black and yellow patterns. The thorax had four black stripes. Eyes were large, a creamy yellow with small red flecks. The separated eyes indicate that this fly is a female. Males do not have a noticeable separation. The fly looked very much like a large hover fly. A striking fly with a slightly flattened abdomen with black and yellow patterns. The thorax had four black stripes. Eyes were large, a creamy yellow with small red flecks. The separated eyes indicate that this fly is a female. Males do not have a noticeable separation. The fly looked very much like a large hover fly.

The Native Drone Fly is a brightly coloured hover fly with large strange spotted eyes. They have a hovering flight and make a droning noise like a bee, hence the common name.
