  1. How can you tell from this photo it is a Lucilia cuprina and not Lucilia sericata or another species? Do you have other photos showing the head?

  2. Seemed the most likely candidate as the species is in the area and overall morphology fits ... I should be able to get more photos .. the colour hue does rather depend upon which angle one views the insect. Posted 8 years ago

The species "Lucilia cuprina" is more commonly known as the Australian sheep blowfly. It belongs to the blow-fly family Calliphoridae, and while some authorities combine the blow flies and the flesh flies together into the Metopiidae family, distinguishable characteristics allow for the separation.
