Great Blue Heron Seen in a pond of the SF Botanical Garden, CA (Sep 14, 2014).
This heron with blue-gray plumage often stands motionless as it scans for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. They may move slowly, but Great Blue Herons can strike like lightning to grab a fish or snap up a gopher.
1. Haha! I think this one is used to see many people every day as the pond is in the middle of the botanical garden in SF. Also, I find it in general that the animals are less afraid of people in America than in Europe, I don't know exactly why.. Posted 8 years ago

The great blue heron is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands.
