Saperda carcharias Fairly large (20-23mm) Longhorn beetle that develops in Poplar trees. Fairly large (20-23mm) Longhorn beetle that develops in Poplar trees. It has a smaller congener (Saperda populnea - 10-15mm) that also develops in Poplar:

Saperda populnea - Female This is the female of the "lesser poplar longhorn" (Kleine Populierenboktor) Saperda populnea, with 10-15mm a good deal smaller than its congener Saperda carcharias (20-23mm)<br />

    1. Thanks Ferdy :o) I think this one was my Lumix FZ38 with the Raynox DMC250 screwed on - the critter is definitely too large for the Raynox MSN202. With that camera I always shoot at minimum aperture (highest available F-whatever) and fairly high speeds and try to compensate with fill in flash through some tissue paper or other means to get indirect light from the flash (bouncing off an aluminum foil or something - nothing fancy ;o) Posted 8 years ago
