Bat Hawk striking
Every evening at sunset as the millions of Bats exits the caves to hunt, the Bat Hawk - Macheiramphus alcinus are waiting to get their meals. They hunt by chasing their prey at high speeds in flight. About 49% of their hunts are successful.
The Bat Hawk is crepuscular and hunts at dusk.
In the picture, the bigger 'shadow' is the Bat Hawk and can be seen reaching out with its claws to grab a Bat.

The bat hawk is a raptor found in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia to New Guinea. It is named for its diet, which consists mainly of bats. It requires open space in which to hunt, but will live anywhere from dense rainforest to semi-arid veld.

This was what I was mentioning to you the other day.
The other photographer was using a 500 mm zoom lens, wasn't sure how his shots turned out as he didn't showed me. But he keep going back every evening for this behavioural shot. Posted 8 years ago
