Ant Harvesting Honeydew This is a Scamandra Planthopper - Scamandra polychroma getting harvested by Ants. When I first saw it, I thought the Ants were predating on the Planthopper but was later told my a friend who specialises in Fulgoridae that is not the case. The Ants 'harvest' the urine secretion of the Planthoppers and they uses the antennae to stroke the Planthopper to encourage the process.
