When the ID difference is subtle or debatable, we can wait for the original poster to respond. Yet it's not necessarily always wrong to not wait, depending on the situation.
This may not be such an example, but I've come across plenty of situations where the poster was just guessing, the species ID being not even close. In such cases, I don't wait, I directly correct yet still provide the comment.
So it depends. It's complex. For people with good standing reputation in identification, agreed this approach is recommended. Posted 5 years ago
