  1. This is not Eviota sebreei. I think it could be Helcogramma striatum:

    Eviota sebreei is dotted:

    1. Looks like a good ID challenge to me, despite not being an expert myself. Let's give Albert time to respond, note that his notifications do not work for some reason, so he manually checks for comments these days. Posted 5 years ago
      1. Yes, indeed. I would not change it without Albert agreeing. I have also provided an alternative, I don't like to simply tell if a species is not right..I try to look for an alternative as much as I can. Posted 5 years ago
        1. Agreed that in case of a correction (instead of the situation where no ID was there in the first place), it's always good practice to provide a comment with evidence, like you did.

When the ID difference is subtle or debatable, we can wait for the original poster to respond. Yet it's not necessarily always wrong to not wait, depending on the situation.

This may not be such an example, but I've come across plenty of situations where the poster was just guessing, the species ID being not even close. In such cases, I don't wait, I directly correct yet still provide the comment.

So it depends. It's complex. For people with good standing reputation in identification, agreed this approach is recommended.
