The Flasher Scorpionfish - Scorpaenopsis macrochir has shorter snout and less pronounced hump on back; colour highly variable. Inner surface of pectoral fin is brilliant yellow-orange with isolated black spots and wide black border.
All species of Scorpaenopsis at times display colours that effectively mimic sponge growth.
