
Forest Splendid Ghost Moth - male
This beautiful pale blue-green moth had a wing span of about 70 mm although this one looked smaller than the female seen here about 3 years ago.
Faint creamy white patterns on the pale green gave the forewings a translucent look. Bordering the submarginal areas was a broken pale yellow line. The colour appeared deeper along the costa. The large dark eyes were close-set. Antennae were short.
Spotted under bright lights near a national park - Dandenong Ranges National Park on a warm evening. An exciting find !
''Aenetus eximia'' is a moth of the Hepialidae family. It is known from southern Queensland, Australia, to Tasmania.
The wingspan is about 70 mm. Adult males are blue-green. Females are green with two spots on each forewing. The hindwings are orange with green borders.
