Great Hammerhead Shark - Sphyrna mokarran This female Great Hammerhead Shark was an unexpected sighting when diving at Tiger Beach for the Tiger Sharks.  Although Great Hammerhead Sharks can be seen in Bahamas but they are usually seen at Bimini beach and not Tiger Beach and also the season is more towards December to January instead of October.<br />

Quite an impressive sight, this female was at least 3 meters length although they have been know to grow up to 6 meters! The great hammerhead is the largest species of hammerhead shark, belonging to the family Sphyrnidae, attaining a maximum length of 6.1 m. It is found in tropical and warm temperate waters worldwide, inhabiting coastal areas and the continental shelf.
