  1. Earlier known as pied crested cuckoo

    Also according to Indian mythology it has its very own Indian name as 'Chaatak' a bird which stays thirsty and only drinks from the first rains.

    In a way sighting of this bird was considered as indication of getting shower soon.

    This is may be the earliest record of concept of Indicator species.

The Jacobin cuckoo is a member of the cuckoo order of birds that is found in Africa and Asia. It is partially migratory and in India, it has been considered a harbinger of the monsoon rains due to the timing of its arrival.
