zebra Finch ( T. guttata castanotis)
Small birds with bright orange bill. Head, throat and upper chest were grey. Eyes were black with a streak running down like a tear-drop. The orange (chestnut) cheeks suggest that this bird is male. Wing feathers were speckled and tail had black and white bars like a zebra.
Spotted on open grasslands-sheep and cattle country.

The Zebra Finch, ''Taeniopygia guttata'' , is the most common and familiar estrildid finch of Central Australia and ranges over most of the continent, avoiding only the cool moist south and the tropical far north. It also can be found natively in Indonesia and East Timor. The bird has been introduced to Puerto Rico, Portugal, Brazil and the United States
