Common Myna - Acridotheres tristis I read that this Common Myna was introduced to Fiji, it is not local to Fiji.<br />
One of the reason for the introduction of this Common Myna was to combat the infestation of Coconut Stick Insects.<br />
However, this Myna has also become a pest as it threatened other endemic bird species.  In some islands, there were eradication or reduction programs of Myna Birds and that has resulted in more visibility of Kingfisher, Dove and Lorikeet in the island.<br />

The common myna, sometimes spelled mynah, also sometimes known as "Indian myna", is a member of the family Sturnidae native to Asia. An omnivorous open woodland bird with a strong territorial instinct, the myna has adapted extremely well to urban environments.
