      1. Hehe yes, I see the term being used in some non-African countries even. It's a pretty effective marketing term. Posted 8 years ago

          1. One I don't like, though. It makes people obsessed with 5 species whilst ignoring everything else. Posted 8 years ago
            1. That is so true but some guides that I have met on the Safari does not care so much about the Big 5.

For instance, on my first Safari in Africa, I was looking forward to see my first Lion in the wild but the guide was spending half a day to look for the Wild Dogs! Luckily, he explained that the Wild Dogs are more difficult to find than the Lions and also rarer. Good thing he did find us both, and we did have very close-up encounters with the Lions later in the day, just by the side of the road to us and they were mating! lol

  2. Sorry to disappoint, but it's not an Antlion but an Owlfly (Ascalaphidae) - are Owls in the medium 5 ? Posted 7 years ago
    1. Thanks, Arp for correcting.
I guess Owl-fly will not qualify for the Big 5, so have to settle for the medium or small 5 :D
