Spike Caps luckily for me a person or animal had pulled up one of these little guys so I was able to examine one in quite a bit of detail. They had no yellow at the base of the stem, which identifies them as G. smithii. Some people think this may be simply a variation of G. oregonensis, but for now it's listed as a separate species.
