
Nyctibius grandis
The Nyctibius grandis, large Nictibio, is known in some latitudes as Big Urutaú, is a species belonging to the family Nyctibiidae that lives in the neotropic.
Its length is around 48 - 60 cm and its plumage is brown interspersed with light gray and white. Its tail and wings are relatively long.
It inhabits mainly in the humid lowland tropical forest and its distribution area includes Mexico, Central America (Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica) and South America (Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, French Guyana, Guyana, Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia).
It is a lonely and nocturnal bird that usually perches on clear branches above the canopy, from where it launches to catch large insects in flight, such as moths and beetles, and small bats.
