Rosenberg's Goanna Kangaroo Island Varanus rosenbergi - Apparently the only goanna on Kangaroo Island.<br />
I got lucky and stumbled upon this one as it was fast asleep on a sunny January afternoon. A fortuitous walk in the scrub in Hanson Bay - the goanna woke up pretty quickly and this is one of the photos. The Rosenberg's monitor is an Australian species of varanid reptile found in southern regions of the continent. They are large and fast predators with rugged bodies and long tails, having a combined length up to 1.5 metres, that will consume any smaller animal that is pursued and captured or found while foraging.
