Stick Insect, Phasmid - Ommatopseudes harmani
This Stick Insect of the species Ommatopseudes harmani was originally described by Paul Brock in 1995 as Pinnispinus harmani, with the genus name of Pinnispinus newly created. However, it was much later reclassified as Ommatopseudes harmani as the species fits into the genus Ommatopseudes, where another species, Ommatopseudes paradoxus has been described from Sumatra since 1942.
Ommatopseudes harmani is a very small species, with the Females just around 3cm in size and Males around 2 cm in size. Same like the species under the genus of Abrosoma (my previous Phasmid Spotting from Cameron Highlands), the Males of this species tends to 'ride' the Female for the rest of their adult life, unless they are disturbed.
In my picture, the Males can be seen as very slender and hardly noticeable. This species also has row of Spines running along their back. Also can be seen in my picture, the Female is carrying an Egg, while being mated by the Male.
