The description mentioned they inhabits forests from 600-1,150 masl but I found this at around 1,700 masl in Cameron Highlands. What I have observed of late in Cameron Highlands, the temperature up there is not as cold as it used to be, say 20-30 years ago. I remember in the 80s when I first went there, we have to put on sweaters in the evening and it was super cold in the early mornings. The night temperature I hate during this trip was around 23-24C!<br />

  1. I've pinged John Sullivan for this one, I hope he does not get tired of me :) Posted 9 years ago
    1. Never tired of trying to identify herps! Fortunately, I happen to own Lee Grismer's most excellent and comprehensive "Lizards of Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and their Adjacent Archipelagos". And I'm particularly interested in this area since I plan to visit it next year. I recognized the shape of this lizard as being that of a gecko in the genus Cnemaspis. But Malaysia is full of different species of Cnemaspis. Fortunately, from the location and photo, it seems that there is only one viable candidate: Cnemaspis flavolineata.

Unfortunately, there is no species record for Cnemaspis flavolineata in the database yet, and the English-language Wikipedia doesn't have a page for it (though the French, Swedish, and Romanian Wikipedias, at least, do). I'll go ahead and create one and add a comment here when it's ready.

      1. I've now added a species record for Cnemaspis flavolineata, so you can now associate this photo with that species. Posted 9 years ago
        1. Thanks, Ferdy for contacting John Sullivan to help with the ID of this Gecko, not Lizard (my mistake).
Thanks, John for the help with the ID, so this is truly a small sized Gecko and the local name is Titiwangsa Day Gecko, a highland endemic species.

          1. No mistake on your part -- geckos are a family of lizards, so calling it a lizard is correct. Posted 9 years ago
      2. I'm deeply impressed, John, thank you so much for taking the time to identify this one. And great to hear you happen to have an interest in this location. Posted 9 years ago

Cnemaspis flavolineata is a small probably-diurnal gecko that inhabits forests from 600-1,150 meters in elevation in the Banjaran Titiwangsa in central Peninsular Malaysia. This species has been found exclusively on vegetation, unlike other Malayan Cnemaspis species, which are typically found on rocky habitats.
