
Sarcophaga carnaria, Netherlands
Recognized by brown/red eyes, golden cheeks, checkered back and large feet. Still, the only way to reliably identify one is to examine the male genitalia, which I gladly skip.
This flesh fly is extremely flexible, it does not care about its habitat for as long as the female can place the larvae on a source of food. Remarkable is that the eggs of this fly already hatch inside the female, this way the larvae can start feeding immediately once they are placed.
Once adult, these flies mostly feed on nectar and droppings, so their name is at least partly misleading.
