  1. There is another similar tanager species, also with gorgeous shades of blue, and yet both species are named after the color of their head...

    You can say what you want about practicality, I sure prefer the way Australian birders went when naming fairy-wrens (Lovely, superb, splendid, emperor...)

The black-capped tanager is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.
