Net Casting Spider This Net Casting Spider - Deinopsis sp, is quite an incredible Spider.  They are also known as Ogre-Faced Spider for it huge eyes and ugliness.  It got its name from the net made by its webs, which it then hold while hanging upside down waiting for its prey to pass by below at night time.  When its prey comes within range, it then cast its net to catch the prey.<br />

  1. Awesome. I am in awe of this species and did not know about that BBC video. I kept posting this video to impress people:


    Although not as clear, it does show the spider's speed when handling an in-flight insect.

    1. Yes, this Net Casting Spider is very impressive indeed although they may not look spectacular just by look, unless you are someone serious into Spiders.
      The BBC video really show the whole process, but don't be surprised a lot of their footages are not in the 'wild' but 'recreated' in certain conditions.

''Deinopis longipes'' is a species of net-casting spider . It is found throughout Central America.

This spider has a very slim, elongated body around 16 mm in length. As with other members of the family, it hunts at night, constructing a silken net which it uses to snare passing prey.
