Frogfishes don't have gills and they are clumsy swimmers as you can see from the courting/mating video.
In the same video, the first few seconds of the video, the frogfish on the left, take a close look of the pectoral fin, that is near the border of the video, you will see a pulsating 'hole'. That is how the 'inhale' in water and pass it through that hole to absorb oxygen. But at the same time, they also use that 'hole' as a propulsion, when they gulp a lot of water and force it through that small hole, it will project them forward! Posted 9 years ago
