  1. The Capromydae are restricted to the Caribbean. Of the 20 species that once lived, about a third are extinct. This is the only species that isn't endangered, and it is quite easy to see on Cuba. These guys were actually completely accustomed to humans, sleeping under bungalows on the beach. Posted 9 years ago

Desmarest's hutia , also known as the Cuban hutia, is a species of rodent endemic to Cuba. Weighing up to 8.5 kg , it is the largest of the extant species of hutia . It is common and the only hutia species that is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
